New Ground

Today we are continuing a long very big house project. I dislike carpet. And we just tore out all the old carpet in our dining room, family room, and hallway. I can’t describe the joy! Carpet in a dining room when you have kids is very difficult. My dislike of old carpet was confirmed when we saw what was under it.

Blah! Dirt. Thick dirt. That was some serious housecleaning made only possible by demo! I’m really happy to get all that dirt out of my house and lay down some easy maintenance beautiful hard wood!

This is what it looks like when your home becomes a construction place… Here’s my dining room.

My gymnast (still in pajamas) thinks the floor boards make a great impromptu balance beam

The (almost) one year old thinks all of this is just awesome. (We really have to work hard at keeping saws, nails, et al out of her reach.)

Here’s the beginning.

We are about 1/3rd the way done now.

Laying 500 sq. ft. of wood flooring while living with 3 kids in the house is just… an incredible opportunity for all of us. It stretches me in so many ways. It’s so much work to maintain a household and a baby safe construction site that I’m tired. And I’ve been snappy. And I’ve had to apologize. And in the midst of all this I’m learning another lesson about grace and love. Doesn’t it always seem like when we’re stretched thin is when we really have the chance to be great?

I didn’t mean for this to be so transparent. But I’ll leave it. It’s true.

  1. Very nice flooring!!! I have allergies so we had to remove the carpet from most of the main rooms. Mine were worse. The previous owners had sprayed popcorn ceilings and used a sprayer to paint the walls, not covering the hard wood floors and then laid carpet over the mess. It took me forever on my hands and knees scrubbing to get the mess up. The floors aren’t in the greatest condition but, I’ll have them redone one day. Glad you were able to get your carpet out and lay a nice floor, it looks great!
