Water and a Brush

Get ready for the cheapest, easiest, most fun activity that the kids did all summer. A few weekends ago I was organizing and cleaning out the garage. The kids quickly got tired of playing with their bubbles and sidewalk chalk but I had a backup plan. I ran inside and got them cups full of water and old paint brushes. This bought me a couple more hours as the kids “painted” on the concrete and themselves with almost no mess to clean up in the end. The littlest one loved to paint on her hands and her legs and feel the brush and water. Yes, she also spilled it all over herself too. It was a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. This has got to be one of my all time favorite play ideas. It kept them so occupied and they didn’t know it but they were working on fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, sensory skills, and exercising their creativity. I have to admit that even I took a little time away from the garage to try my hand at water painting.

It was so much fun that we’ve already done it since and I’m sure we’ll get to it again before the summer is over.
